A Mini adventure for the HRCR on Epynt
Port Talbot Motor Club’s inaugural two-day rally on the challenging Epynt Military Ranges delivered a grueling test for competitors. The event, incorporating both the Mini Cup and Cat 1 Cup, showcased the resilience and skill of participants.
Logistical complexities added to the challenge, with some competitors facing the arduous task of self-servicing their vehicles. Despite these hurdles, the competitive spirit prevailed. Wet weather conditions further amplified the difficulties, testing drivers and navigators to their limits.
Mechanical issues plagued several crews, including a premature retirement for Eric Davies’ Mini. Andrew O’Hanlon’s gearbox failure also marked a disappointing end to his rally. However, the challenges only intensified the determination of the remaining competitors.
Stephen Hall and Aggie Foster emerged victorious in the Cat 1 Cup, their TR4 proving dominant on the demanding stages and in the Mini Cup, Clive King and Anton Bird delivered a strong performance to secure victory. The Mini Cup witnessed a spirited battle, with Ken Pryce and Don James making a notable impression. The duo’s pace and consistency highlighted their potential.
The Epynt Military Ranges provided a formidable backdrop, with its demanding terrain and unpredictable weather conditions creating a true test of endurance. The event showcased the raw nature of rallying and the unwavering spirit of the competitors.
As the dust settles on this inaugural event, anticipation builds for the next challenge. The Three Shires Rally, scheduled for September 14th and 15th, will be the next opportunity for competitors to showcase their skills.
