A weekend of mixed fortunes for Halfords Racing with Cataclean

Saturday started off in promising fashion with Gordon and Dan finishing P1 and P3 respectively in free practice 2.

Qualifying was more challenging with changing weather conditions meaning a late changed to slicks was the order of the day, unfortunately the chequered flag dropped before either driver could post a reasonable time. Gordon qualified 7th and Dan 16th.

Race one was over before it started for Flash, whilst taking avoidance action for a slowing car in front he got side swiped which pitched him across the track and into the path of Smiley, with both ending up in the barriers.  Dan drove a solid race and finished in a fantastic 7th place starting from 16th , performing some amazing overtaking manoeuvres.

Race Two saw further incident in the opening laps and a lengthy red flag period ensued.  From the restart both drivers started to make progress through the field and after a couple of laps Dan finally dispatched Plato for 4th place and was gradually catching the top 3, finishing just 4 seconds behind. Flash again encountered issues after contact damaged his car and he then started to drop down the field eventually finishing 18th.

The reverse grid draw saw Dan drawn 8th with Flash starting towards the back of the grid in 18th.  As the drivers came out of the garage the heavens opened and it was decided to change to wets rather than slicks.  The strategy worked well for Gordon who charged through the field to eventually finish in 4th place, an amazing drive! Dan however suffered with the weight and trye degradation, so pitted for slicks as the rain had eased, unfortunately he then had to change back to wets as it began to rain heavily again and ended up finishing in 21st position.

Daniel Rowbottom commented “That was a fantastic weekend for me, my highest finish ever in the BTCC. I felt I drove well and took the opportunities as they presented themselves.  To come away from the weekend in 8th place and with 22 points I am delighted. Bring on Snetterton!”

Gordon Shedden closed “Well that was a bit of a weekend to forget for me, two no points finishes wasn’t what I was expecting! But hats off to the team to get me back out for race 2, they had a massive amount of work to do from the race 1 incident.  It is great to finish on a high though as we have looked strong all weekend and fair play to Dan in getting two top ten results. I’m happy with the way I’m driving, and the car felt hooked up, so you can guarantee we’ll be pushing hard again at the next round in June!”
