This year’s HRCR Stage Masters Challenge got off to a challenging start, with storm damage forcing the cancellation of the first two forestry rounds in Wales. However, the inclusion of the Malcolm Wilson Rally as a replacement round has given competitors a chance to kick off their campaigns. The HRCR extends its gratitude to the event organisers for accommodating them at short notice, and a determined group of competitors is heading north to seize the opportunity.

Despite strong registration numbers, only a dedicated core of crews will contest this round, aiming to secure early points and build momentum. 2023 champions Baz Wheeler and John Pickavance, both experienced competitors in their Ford Escort RS1800, are tipped as the ones to beat. However, Lee Ashberry and Ian Jones continue to grow in confidence and will be ready to capitalize on any mistakes.

Newcomers to the Challenge, Dave Peters and Andy Richards, bring a Pinto-powered Escort, while 2024 champions Paul Holmes and Liz Beesley are holding off their title defense until the Dixies Challenge in May. Joining from the southwest are Devonians Freddy Camp and Stephen Spear in their 1600cc Escort. Best of luck to all crews—we look forward to hearing the stories from the weekend!
