Katie Milner and Alice Hughes exceeded expectations on their C1 Racing Club debut by finishing second in both three-hour races.
The second race was particularly close, with the Motorsport Woman duo scrambling for the lead late on and almost grabbing the win.
The Croft meeting was the team’s first time out in the Merlin International-run Citroen C1 and the first time Katie and Alice had raced together. Starting from sixth on the grid, they battled against atrocious weather conditions as well as their on-track opponents, but their consistent pace and measured approach paid off.
“We are a brand-new team and to come out and get podiums is absolutely amazing,” said a delighted Katie.
“We certainly opened a lot of people’s eyes to our capabilities on track.
“We knew that we needed to get our strategy right to be up there.”
Alice agreed. “For us to be so quick and consistent in our very first race together definitely put the pressure on some established teams which only grew our confidence more.”
“The best moment for me was taking the race lead whilst coming down the pit straight in front of Katie and the mechanics on the pit wall.”
“We both didn’t take any prisoners out there…if there was a gap, we were going through! We can only go forward now – to P1,” was Katie’s assessment of their performance.
“Katie and I complemented each other so well and the results speak for themselves,” was Alice’s.
The pair are quick to credit everyone who helped them, not least their dads, who worked extremely hard to get the car ready. They were also assisted by Racelogic and its VBox logging system.
“Katie and I got together on the test day with the VBox and I found nearly five seconds a lap,” said Alice.
The next outing for Team Motorsport Woman is the C1 24 Hours at Silverstone on April 26th-28th.
